Shuker Is Leading Orienteers B. Shuker (South Auckland), the Auckland champion, enters today's third and final day of the three-day orienteering contest leading the field by 2m 55s, and will be hard to catch. Shuker leads C. W. Battley (North West), a former Auckland and national champion, and is such commanding form in the physically gruelling event in the Woodhill State Forest, that only a bad mistake today could cost him a merited victory. R. Brighouse and D. A. Pirie (South Auckland) hold third, and fourth places, separated only by 25s, with Brighouse 3m 1s behind Battley. In a major upset, Eileen Frith (South Auckland) leads the women's A class from a former national champion, Mrs Val Robinson, with Mrs Phyl Shedden (South Auckland) third. In fact South Auckland dominate the event with leaders in most categaries. North West, the national relay champions, hold the lead in only two divisions, the W19B in which Robyn Moore holds a 5m 50s advantage, and in the M21B where D. Townsend holds a very slim margin of 42s. Pinelands is leading two classes — Jan Davies, the national champion, holding 3m 28s advantage in the girls' up to 14, and E. Stallard leading the M50 class by 12m 58s. Eileen Brighouse (Taupo) leads the W35A section by the narrow margin of 44s over Margaret Nicholls (Central), while Central holds the lead in the M35A class, J. Gregory being in a class of his own, 20m 47s ahead of his nearest challenger. Finish Today The event will finish today, entry to the competition area being via forest headquarters, Woodhill.
